The SAB Network - What is it and is it any good?

When I was 14 years old, I met Stu Bruce, the brains behind Sab Sound and The Sab Network. Together, we went kitesurfing in Tarifa, Spain and I learnt about Stu’s experience as a sound recordist. I was inspired by his stories, so, several years later, I decided I wanted to try and get into the TV and film business too! Over the years, I kept a close eye on his work and his business so was very interested when I heard about his latest creation with The Sab Network. I knew they were selective when adding new members, as the goal was to provide a high end service, offering well trusted, experienced crew. I knew that knowing the creator, Stu, wouldn’t just cut it for my entry. In fact, when the selection was made, no one even knew my relation to Stu! Lo and behold, I was thrilled that they felt I would be a great addition to their network and I was selected.

A year on I feel that I can now give an honest review on what it is all about!

The Sab Network is primarily a network of skilled, friendly industry professionals to help TV and film productions source their crews and teams from one place. And since this morning, they have just launched their new website where, as a client, you will be able to search with key tags to find the best suited crew, message potential candidates and book everything through a really smart looking website! Having tested and provided feedback pre-launch myself, I can honestly say it really has been extremely well thought out and is revolutionary! For example, if you need a french speaking DOP who likes adventure (like me!), you can search ‘french’ ‘dop’ ‘adventure’ in the search and it will show the matching profile options. From there, you can view CVs, kit lists, awards, credits and even featured credits that the individual has chosen to write more about! You can then add the profile to a selected crew basket, a bit like a shopping basket, and continue with your searches. Once finished, you have your selected team for your produciton and can book and message them directly.

As a network member, I also have the opportunity to keep up to date with industry news and ask for advice from other members, whether it be questions about carnets, kit or even taxes! I also get to post my own searches for crew, so I feel so well connected, even when I need to find someone at extremely short notice! It’s such a great community, and the more people I work with within the network the more I love it! It’s great to feel part of something; we all know how lonely it can be in the freelance world.

So if you haven’t tried it yet, give it a go! And of course, feel free to check out my profile! 😉
